How To: Lavender Sachet
As the blooming season ends, I like to keep a little of the spring and summer smells around. A sachet in the dresser helps—and lavender has a punch that you’ll smell for months.
Do double duty and make it a spell bag. Lavender is excellent for purification, protection, drawing love, healing, aiding sleep, and bringing peace. Simply keep intention in mind while making your sachet and feel free to add your own incantation or invocation.
This one’s crazy easy. Here’s how:
Gather your supplies—For this one, it’s lavender flower (I’m using a large size of ours) and a muslin bag (or breathable bag of some sort).
Remove the bottle’s lid and fit the bag’s mouth over the top of the bottle.
Turn the bottle over and dump in as much lavender as you like. In this case, I used about 2/3 of the small Mason jar.
Gently pinch off the bag’s mouth and shake any loose lavender back into the jar the put the lid on.
If you’re performing an incantation or invocation, this is a good spot for it.
Cinch the muslin bag’s cord.
Pinch about 1/2” of the top of the bag and wrap the cord around the bag just below your fingers. I use one side of the cord to do this, but you can alternate or use both—whatever works for you. Just be sure it’s tight, so the lavender can’t sneak out. When you’re sure it’s secure (2-4 times around), tie a knot. I add a second slip knot as well for security.
Alternately, if you’re planning to throw your sachet in the dryer, consider sewing the bag shut so you don’t wind up with lavender bits all over your laundry.
Every week or so, scrunch the bag a little to stir up the scent and enjoy!
If you don’t like lavender—or want to use a just want something different, try these:
Pink or Red Rose (love, friendship, romance, aphrodisiac) and Jasmine (draw spiritual love, prophetic dreams, aphrodisiac) are both subtler but very nice in the drawer with your delicates.
Orris Root (healing) is the base of many perfumes. It has a subtle, musky-floral scent that blends well with other subtler scents like Lily of the Valley (draw peace & tranquility, repel negativity).
Any of the culinary herbs and spices have great long-lasting punch. Try Basil (peace, success, positivity), Thyme, (health, courage, banishing), Rosemary (protection, love, success), Cinnamon (success, healing, strength), Peppermint (focus, cleansing), Sage (cleansing, purification, longevity). And your cat will appreciate a Catnip sachet. (Triple-knot this one!)
Or try any kind of resin—break them up occasionally in a mortar recharge the scent.
If you’re specifically making a spell bag, also try adding crystal chips
